Harris Stewart founded the company in 2012. A passionate home-brewer, and a student of the works of Buckminster Fuller, Harris found himself in law school at the University of Alabama. He was brewing constantly, researching new hop varieties during lectures, and talking more about beer during work events than case law. A different calling was calling.
The concept of TrimTab Brewing Co. literally woke Harris up from sleep. Along with his wife Cheri, for weeks on end the conversation was fleshed out how a brewery could be created, dedicated to celebrating small sources of big change – the trimtab. It didn’t matter that they lacked the financing, it didn’t matter that there was risk. What mattered was that this brewery had the potential to fully explore the art of craft beer, and to use that beer as a trimtab. And that was something that Harris couldn’t turn away from.
The journey would require over two years, hundreds of conversations, and a persistent vision that great things were possible through this new company. For him, the greatest blessing of the experience has been in building an aligned team who were committed to that vision and in establishing the TrimTab brand in the communities it serves.
Harris now oversees production planning, sales, strategic development, and future planning of the business. And when the mood strikes, it’s not uncommon to find our founder DJing in the Tasting Gallery on the weekends. We all wear many hats around here.
Cheri has been called many things in her life. A devoted yoga teacher. A firework. A visionary. Though she has held positions varying from the financial services industry to retail management, her greatest joy has been in creating the conditions for people to live lives they love. And when Harris began planning the early stages of TrimTab, the opportunity to create a new business founded on that possibility was too great to turn away from.
Cheri has literally formed the emotional framework of the company. In the formative days, she worked closely with Harris in the creation of the business plan, infusing what would become culture of TrimTab. As the manager of the Tasting Gallery, and more generally the “Facilitator of Fun”, she is charged with seeing the values, vision, and mission of the company lived out day-to-day in our front of the house experience, The Tasting Gallery.
