Scalici Alley Project (Live Music / No Cover)
December 21, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 11:55 pm
At the intersection of music, art, and technology, Scalici Alley find their inspiration!
The Scalici-Alley project combines percussion and trumpet with live electro-acoustic sounds to invent a new spectrum of sound and color. Their creative formula is to honor the music that inspires them individually and allow that music to form the foundation for their explorations in music and technology.
Scalici writes, “Rob and I love the music, and the electronics we’re incorporating are the unseen third band member. It really creates limitless improvisational opportunities.”
In a typical tune, the audience may hear samples of a Lightnin’ Hopkins guitar riff, a traditional West African ceremonial chant or an Ngoni melody. Scalici adds dance inducing beats and rhythmic textures that create sonic spaces for Alley to improvise in and thematically embellish.
At this show, Scalici will also feature Chicago-based musician, Michael Taylor.
In his work as a musician with the djembe he has put this traditional West African instrument in performance art, storytelling, contemporary music (jazz, classical, pop, blues, etc.)
After beginning studies with Grand Master Drummer Mamady Keita in 2001, he achieved the degrees of Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy Instructor (2005) and TTMDA Senior Instructor (2006); he is the Director of TTMDA-Chicago.
This will be a very eclectic show not to be missed!
